Sample Best Man Toast

"If I could have everyone's attention it's time for a toast. I hate these things but as the best man I was told that it is part of my job to give a best man toast about these two people here. I'm not so sure I know why they are together. I mean, just look at her and then look at him. I'm sure you can see that he probably doesn't deserve to be with someone that is so beautiful. Actually, since I have known him for at least ten years, I am pretty sure I can tell you that he does not belong with someone so wonderful as she is.

Nevertheless, here they are. Each one of them has something unique about them that makes them who they are. For James, our groom here, it is his sense of humor. There is no doubt that he is a funny guy only he doesn't have to try to be so because things just seem to happen to him. Of course, he knows that I am about to tell you about the first time that he met April, his now wife. I can tell you about it because I was there and I know all too well how funny it was to see him.

We had been at the beach for a weekend day in the sun. Yeah, we were there looking for girls, I'll admit it. Hey, I'm not the one that's married anyway. Anyway, after many times of striking out with the girls, we were heading out. We had packed up all of our stuff and were walking to the car when he saw her. April was at the ice cream shop and was standing with a group of friends. Somehow, he thought he would have a chance with her. I'm telling you it must have been all the sun that day.

We walked over and he went to get some ice cream. The whole time he is thinking about this girl and how he wanted to talk to her but couldn't think of anything to say that wasn't completely dumb. So, after he gets his ice cream, he walks towards her and this is when he forgets how to walk or something and forgets about the stairs. Yes, my friends, James hit the floor, fell down the stairs, crashed where else but into April. She was anything but impressed, but she thought something was wrong with him. That's because there is James laying on the floor, with his face directly into the dish of ice cream that he was holding as still as possible. I think he was hoping everyone would just go away.

Anyway, for some strange reason, she did help him up and actually seemed concerned. Don't ask me how but somehow he managed to get her number and get her attention enough to impress her. The whole time,I am standing there laughing because as always something hilarious has happened to my friend. And, somehow, he has managed to come out on top. Strange as it seems, that was the day that my friend here became a person that others seemed to love.

As for April, I'm afraid I really do not have a funny story about her. I have complete respect for her because, well, look what she has to deal with for the next fifty years. What I do know about her, though is that she is going to be putting up with a lot of James's trouble! In reality, she is a very caring person and more then once I have seen her go out of her way to make me or any of James's few other friends happy.

I know that more then once we have kept him out pretty late and even taken advantage of her understanding and had the nerve to claim stupidity. I remember a couple of times where they were supposed to be doing something special, I don't know, like a date, I guess. Something like that. Anyway, we had been at his house before hand and we just didn't leave very quickly. In fact, I know that once we decided to turn on the game and stay and instead of heading out for the night, April was stuck at home with a bunch of us to deal with. Although the game was good, and I am more than happy to stay in her company, I know that this was not something that she wanted to do herself.

As for the two of them as a couple, I am not sure that I have ever really met two people that care more about each other. There are plenty of times when I have seen them bicker, but even the biggest fights and arguments that they have had have resulted in, well, nothing. They always seem to know what the other one needs including more then a few times that James has needed a slap in the head. At any rate, I don't think either one of them could be happy without the other.

So, today is a very important day. Now, I know that the two of you are planning to get your lives started and you probably do not want the guys to be over treading on your space, but just so long as we can still share a small part of James's time, I think things can work out really well for all of us.

As for everyone that is here, I would love it if you could all stand up and help me to toast two people that have made a real difference in each others lives as well as in mine. And, on their behalf, I welcome you all to help in sharing in their celebration. Thank you all for coming today and I hope that you eat as much as you would like, drink more than you should and enjoy every minute of it. I know that I will be doing it for sure!
